Our decision to adopt

When we returned from Belize, I felt really unsettled. Work was not going that well - my boss ended up not treating me good or with respect. What had been a wonderful place to work turned into somewhere that I dreaded going every day.

Even though we had the most wonderful time in Belize. The memories and amazing friendships we made were nice to think on - but I just felt a huge emptiness in our lives.

So, I started looking at houses to purchase in Boise, Idaho, where all of our nieces and nephews live. My thought was that if we didn't have children, at least we could be closer to our nieces and nephews and buy a house large enough for them all to have slumber parties at our house. Dennis wasn't too keen on that idea. I just felt really strongly that adoption was being laid on my heart. I was nervous and didn't really know how to approach the subject with Dennis because he was (understandably) caught up in the expense of adoption.

Finally, one evening between work and our Wednesday night bible study I mentioned an acquaintance of ours who has Chrons disease and that I had just found out she was pregnant and close to her baby's due date. I said "What is so wrong with me that I can't have children? I've been to chiropractic, acupuncture, naturopath, nutrionalist, fertility doctor - what more can I do? I haven't had a period in a several months and pretty soon, I'll be too late to bare children and then we'll be too old to adopt - then what?" In true Dennis form, he didn't answer, so I went into our bedroom and started crying. Pretty soon, he came in there too and asked if I would be okay with 2. I said children? Yes. Then I was asked if I would be okay with just one - and I said yes too. Nothing more was said that evening.

The next day, I had Christian Adoption Consultants website up on my computer and when Dennis saw it he asked if I had signed us up yet. I said no and he told me to go ahead and sign us up for adoption!!!!!

We were sitting down to watch a movie and I am so thankful it was one I had watched 2 nights earlier, because I could not concentrate on the movie at all!

Friday, I filled out the application and asked Dennis to sign it and then we mailed it out on April 1, 2017.

Then the wait began ...
